Shopping in Barcelona without dragging your suitcase: Black Friday, Christmas and the January sales near Urquinaona and Passeig de Gràcia
Black Friday (27 November 2026), the Christmas season and the January sales: where to shop on Portal de l'Àngel, Passeig de Gràcia, Rambla de Catalunya and Gràcia, how tax-free shopping works for non-EU travellers, and where to leave your luggage so your hands are free.

From late November to January, Barcelona enters its peak shopping season: Black Friday, which this year falls on Friday 27 November 2026 (with Cyber Monday on the 30th), the Christmas season and, after Epiphany, the January sales. Many visitors use the last day of their trip to shop, and that's where the problem starts: it's hard to try on clothes, carry bags and squeeze through crowds with a suitcase in tow.
Our two shops sit right on the city centre's two big shopping axes: Locker City Urquinaona, a few minutes from Portal de l'Àngel and Plaça de Catalunya, and Locker City Passeig de Gràcia, in the middle of the luxury-brand mile. Drop your suitcase, head out hands-free and come back for it when you're done.
Why shop without luggage
- Busy shops and fitting rooms: in peak season, aisles and fitting rooms are tight, and a suitcase gets in everyone's way, starting with yours.
- Shops don't store luggage: a small bag at most, and not always.
- The bags pile up: between your suitcase and your purchases, you run out of hands.
- Safer: on very crowded streets, the less you carry, the better.
Our lockers run 24/7 with no staff: book on your phone, scan the QR at the kiosk and the locker opens. If you plan to come back loaded, choose a large size so your suitcase and your shopping fit together at the end of the day.
Urquinaona area: Portal de l'Àngel, Plaça de Catalunya and El Born
From Locker City Urquinaona, the city's busiest shopping axis is a few minutes' walk away:
- Portal de l'Àngel: the pedestrian street of the big fashion chains, between Plaça de Catalunya and the Cathedral. At Christmas it lights up with some of the most striking decorations in the centre.
- El Corte Inglés on Plaça de Catalunya: a department store with fashion, cosmetics, gourmet food and, on the top floor, views over the square.
- Carrer de Pelai and Plaça de Catalunya: more chain stores and the link to La Rambla.
- El Born and the Gothic Quarter: 10-15 minutes away, design shops, crafts, independent jewellers and traditional stores. Perfect for a gift that's a bit different.

Passeig de Gràcia area: big brands, Rambla de Catalunya and Gràcia
Locker City Passeig de Gràcia is at number 86, on the stretch of flagship stores and luxury brands, close to Casa Batlló and La Pedrera:
- Passeig de Gràcia: the city's great shop window, with international brands, fashion and tech flagships, and some of Barcelona's most famous modernista buildings.
- Rambla de Catalunya: running parallel, with a pedestrian central walkway; calmer, with shops, bookshops and terraces for a break.
- Gràcia: head up Passeig de Gràcia and across the Diagonal, and Gran de Gràcia and the neighbourhood's side streets offer independent shops, local design and neighbourhood stores.

Christmas: shopping under the lights
The Christmas lights go on in late November, and Passeig de Gràcia and Portal de l'Àngel are two of the places where they look best. If you're visiting in December, it's worth saving your shopping for the afternoon and strolling once the lights are on.
During the Christmas season, city-centre shops usually open on some Sundays and public holidays in December, but not all of them. Before planning a Sunday of shopping, check the opening calendar on Barcelona City Council's website.

Tax free: if you live outside the European Union
If you're resident outside the EU, you can reclaim the VAT on goods you buy in Spain and take home:
- In the shop: ask for the tax-free form when you pay and bring your passport.
- At the airport: before checking in, validate the form at the DIVA kiosks. Keep your purchases handy, as you may be asked to show them.
- Deadline: the goods must leave the EU within three months of purchase.
Refunds are handled by the tax-free company each shop works with, which usually takes a commission. Ask at the till how and when you'll get your money.
